Two posts in one night....say whaaaat?

I don't know if its unusual for people to post twice in one day but who cares I'm going to. So anyways this past week I found out that a distant relative of mine was arrested for providing fraudulent U.S. citizen-ships to illegal immigrants in the area. She was also charged with practicing medicine without a license. Heavy stuff.... Anyways I've known for years that she would take in people and alleviate their pain and ailments through massages but other than that I didn't think of it much. I never thought she was a crook though, so it did come as a huge surprise.

My mother was one of those people who would go and get these massages and she would always praise her for helping out the latin community. My sister and I on the other hand are cynical people and we never trusted the lady and we always made fun of everyone for believing that she was actually helping. However, many people did believe in her and whether she was actually doing anything or not she made people feel good. My grandma for example would always go to Lindy(nickname) first whenever she felt bad, and every time she would come out of the backroom she would always say she felt a lot better.

The point is people trusted this woman, and in the end she fucked those people over. At first when I heard the news I thought it was hilarious because it proved that I was right all along. I even told anyone who would listen about it, but after thinking about it I felt sorry for Lindy. My mom put it all into prospective when she said "that its a shame that she did this, she started off with good intentions but in the end she got greedy." Its true she turned out to be a thief but she really did start off trying to help her community. Its tragic to see people do horrible things to others, especially those less fortunate.

The hispanic community is often preyed upon by people such as Lindy, and like Lindy, those who do take advantage were once in the same situation as those they prey upon. Some Americans are totally against illegal aliens being here in the states, but for the most part these guys are simply trying to make a better life for themselves and their family. Coming from a family that immigrated here illegally I understand how desperate people get to just have the chance to make life a little a better and are willing to pay and do anything to stay. I've also seen how hard my parents have worked to give me everything I could ever want. So like I said its unfortunate that people take advantage of this desperation but whatever...so Lindy, I hope you learned your lesson and for everyone else try and think about the struggle illegal immigrants go through just to give their family their basic needs. Everyone deserves that right?

New Direction

After reading tons of other blogs around the internet I have found that they mostly have a central theme to it...My blog on the other hand has none...So from now on I'm going to try and find the direction my blog will take. Lets see I'm interested in many things but my life revolves around 5 things...School/career, Movies/TV/Music, Fraternity, Family, Friends...So I think I'm gonna write exclusively about those 5 topics. By doing this I feel I will have more to write about and make my blog more interesting, so lets try it out......Lets Start this new approach by writing about school.

We are in the middle of finals season here at George Mason....and that means people looking like zombies, bad eating habits, late nights (the bad kind), and stress levels reaching new heights. No matter how much you try to plan ahead and do things right this semester you always end up pulling all nighters and cursing yourself for waiting this long to start studying. Its almost as if our bodies are programed to find and do anything but study.

It seems unfair that every semester teachers wait till the last possible weeks to stack up the work and on top of that give us a test that encompasses everything we were supposed to learn throughout the semester. Its probably the worst part about college and the reason why so many students end up taking courses over. I personally think finals are retarded and should be done away with, if anything a final shouldn't consist of everything that the class was about. I enjoy those rare occasions where teachers spread out their tests so that I'm not stressing the entire night before about one exam that could potentially be the reason why I fail.

So it should be pretty clear by now that I am the type of student who waits to the last minute to study or do any assignment for that matter( I'm a 4 year college student btw). I can safely say that after 4 years of going to school I am still every bit the procrastinator I was during my first semester. However, I am proud to say that throughout my college career I've only failed 2 classes. So how have I done this? Well for starters I am a government major which if your already into politics and what goes on internationally then your pretty much guaranteed a semi easy path. Though I do wait till the last minute I also know what study techniques help me understand and retain information. Lastly I choose classes that are interesting to me, so even if I don't go to class or take notes in class, I still have a general understanding of what is going on.

So my advice for anybody really is just find what works best for you and choose courses that you actually want to take, not what you have to take. I find many people make themselves miserable by taking courses that sound just terrible. Having some kind of work ethic also comes in handy...so in this finals season I hope everyone finds their groove and passes their classes.
